The Special Events Manager (the "SEM") is a campus-based and primarily responsible for planning, oversight and execution of 1440 Experience-based programming and commuter-based local events, to include but not limited to, faculty samplers, discovery weekends, one-day faculty programs and other 1440 branded series programs and events. 

Responsible for auditing turnover of faculty contracts to events team and obtaining all relevant details from the Programming team related to faculty, production requirements, audio-visual needs, expected attendance and communicating all necessary detailed information to each respective operational department through written and verbal communication in a proactive and timely manner.  Preparing and distributing banquet event orders (BEOs), program resumes, site visit forms, forecasting, payment collection, communicating expected attendance figures and being present for all assigned events are a few primary responsibilities of the SEM.

Ensure all arrangements and details are consistent with 1440 mission achievement and operational SOPs. Maintain productive and trusted relationships with all leadership positions by anticipating and communicating program and event needs well in advance of event dates. 


  • Provides event planning functional expertise and leadership to Director of Events, Programming team, Director of Finance and other campus departments and sales leaders.
  • Provides critical information to operational departments to ensure the execution of successful programs/events.
  • Ensures that all communication and workconform to 1440 mission philosophies and initiatives.
  • Proactively manages all assigned events and programs to ensure smooth operational execution.
  • Coordinates and communicates all logistical needs in a timely manner.
  • Continually evaluates work flow and makes recommendations to improve processes and procedures.
  • Proactively develops and manages key internal relationships on campus.
  • Actively involved in the preparation and execution of assigned programs and events.
  • Manage daily changes from all operations stakeholders to ensure success in changes in any events. Work hand-in-hand with Production and Food and Beverage to ensure proper support and seamless delivery of service.
  • Understands the impact of assigned programs and events on overall financial goals; educates staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Events or Managing Director to meet business needs and mission objectives.

Essential skills and experience

  • Prepare resumes for assigned events and programs.
  • Verify all assigned event and program space in FDC to ensure proper and appropriate space has been secured.
  • Provides campus orientation and/or site inspections.
  • Accommodate faculty requests and needs to establish closer trusted working relationships.
  • Recommend and procure special outside services when required.
  • Conducts final review meetings prior to events and programs as necessary.
  • Be present during events/programs (attend as requested) to ensure all arrangements meet specifications.
  • Upon conclusion of events/programs, review final billing and ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to forward plan and execute details.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, relationship building, project management and social skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in working successfully with interdepartmental teams.
  • Ability to set and prepare accurate event/program forecasts.
  • Strong presentation and platform skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Strong organizational, conflict resolution, change management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use standard software applications, complex spreadsheets, analytical tools and hotel systems including Resort Suite, Opera, Delphi, Net Suite, Sales Force, etc.
  • As a member of 1440 Events team, the Special Events Manager is required to assist other departments in driving a positive campus culture and advancing 1440's Mission.

Other duties

This position is campus-based and will require some local travel. Any need business-related travel is at the discretion of senior leadership and must be approved by the Managing Director prior to booking travel.   Evenings, Weekends, and Holiday work will be required as determined by organizational needs, as well as when requested by the Managing Director.
