Position Summary

Responsible for performing routine safety inspections and light building maintenance tasks. Performance of building inspection and light maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. door security, safety hazards and guest amenities.) Perform walking checks of all areas of campus to ensure safety, and reports maintenance needed to rectify issues such as carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing, etc. Performs general cleaning and other tasks as assigned. This is a very active position requiring extensive walking up and down stairs, hills and trails.

 

Accountabilities

  • Perform regular safety inspections, sweeping buildings and property and taking immediate corrective action as needed and alerting Safety Manager of all concerns.
  • Be accountable for ensuring that all emergency pathways in buildings are clear and egresses are unobstructed. Ensure that all buildings are closed and locked on schedules.
  • Anticipate and address current and potential safety issues effectively and immediately.
  • Effectively and calmly handle emergency situations and communicate to outside emergency response team as well as guests and staff through resolution.
  • Take detailed and accurate notes on all safety incidents and report back to Safety Manager.
  • Answers guest calls for safety or facilities requests, prioritizing and ensuring proper follow up.
  • Support Guest Experience, Facilities, and Housekeeping teams, as needed. On evenings and night coverage, help serve guests who have requests.
  • Participate in safety training and emergency drills including earthquake and fire drills.
  • Support Manager in ensuring that safety procedures are implemented, including emergency and disaster preparedness plans, and that all MSDS are up-to-date and in required work areas.
  • Support Manager in ensuring local, state, and federal safety guidelines, including OSHA, are adhered to and regulatory agency-issued notices are displayed properly throughout buildings.
  • Attend First Aid training and maintain up to date certification.
  • Assist in maintaining security cameras and review footage as directed.
  • Assist in fire safety initiatives throughout the campus, including annual fire extinguisher inspections and maintenance. Assist Facilities and Safety Managers during fire alarm system review.
  • Ensure that necessary safety and emergency kits and equipment are in place and operational.
  • Maintain and enforce Staff, Guest, Contractor and Visitor access to approved areas on campus.
  • Provide Safety operations as needed for Traffic Control and people management during large events.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, motion sensors, power windows, LED fixtures, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.).
  • Reconfigures, installs, positions, and re-mounts modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks.
  • Inspect and repair Doors, door Handles, Hydraulic closers, weather stripping, window cranks and screens.
  • Ability to prioritize jobs and requests given. Ability to understand and follow directions as given.
  • Maintain required documents, (Work Orders, Safety Inspection Logs).
  • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect safety issues, malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations using a preestablished check sheet.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned and be available for flexible hours.

 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in professional security, law enforcement, EMS or similar role.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and alertness.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification preferred.
  • Basic building maintenance knowledge required.
  • Proven ability to handle emergencies effectively and calmly.
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to remain professional at all times.
  • Solid ability with basic computer programs for creating documents.
  • Strong orientation towards 1440 Multiversity's mission and core values and bilingual a plus.
