Named for the number of minutes in a day, 1440 Multiversity is a new kind of immersive learning campus built in the Northern California redwoods. Part personal retreat, part conference center, and part wellness resort, our campus is nestled between Santa Cruz and San Jose in Scotts Valley, CA. Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Operations Manager - Front Office, the Operations Supervisor - Front Desk supports the entire operations team in providing administrative and office support for both guests and the entire 1440 Multiversity team and helps to create an excellent guest experience.


  • Build and maintain excellent relationships and communication within the department, both with front of house staff as well as other support departments, such as reservations and housekeeping. Be a positive leader and set the example for team members to build team morale; keep conversations professional in the workplace, resolve issues, and know when to escalate concerns to senior leadership, while still being part of the solution.
  • Customer Focus: Builds effective relationships with customers, identifies customer expectations, tries to see issues from their point of view; offers practical solutions to problems.
  • Delegation: Demonstrates appropriate use of the steps of delegation.  Uses delegation to develop others, balance work load, and effectively manage time.
  • Problem Solving: Gathers and analyzes information, identifies goals, explores and selects solutions, implements an action plan, and evaluates results.
  • Must be able to effectively and professionally supervise Front Desk Staff and coordinate with other departments as needed to deliver services to guests.
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently resolve customer concerns. Refer any unresolvable guest concerns to the Assistant Front Office Manager or Assistant Operations Manager - Front Office
  • Must be professional in actions and appearance and provide a welcoming presence to all guests.
  • Must be able to follow procedures on all general guest service, safety, emergency, and childcare protocols.

Essential skills and experience

  • Continuously strives for excellence and practices personal accountability for results. Ensure that all staff are consistently professional in actions and appearance and welcome every guest with a smile.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are followed by the Front Desk staff to create a uniform approach to guest service standards.
  • Ensure that Front Desk procedures, pre-arrival back office tasks, check-in, guest finance, and remuneration are maintained in accordance with the established policy and procedure standards and budgetary constraints.
  • Coordinate shifts with the Assistant Front Office Manager to maximize supervisory coverage for the Front Desk. Cover shifts when necessary to ensure top levels of service including weekends and some holidays.
  • Complete other duties and projects as they arise and seek out solutions to improve Front Desk functions.
  • Previous supervisory experience in similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on active listening.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Solid ability to use Microsoft programs, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
