Position Summary

The Strategic Content Creator is a new position in the 1440 Multiversity Marketing Department responsible for the development and execution of 1440 storytelling through inspiring editorial and graphic assets. The ideal candidate is a dynamic digital creator that is equally strong with written communication. The position requires a detail-oriented content creator to produce high-quality outputs for our organization to update existing material, generate novel work, and identify new ways to reach specific target audiences by appealing to consumer interests and creating engaging material.

This position will serve as the organization's key writer writing, reviewing, editing, and updating content for company websites, blogs, marketing materials, and similar platforms. The Strategic Content Creator will also conduct research and interviews to learn more about current trends, developments, and perceptions about the subject matter, and then contextualize findings. As a 1440 reporter and influencer, you will work with stakeholders to write stories, develop marketing copy, produce photos/video, manage social media channels, assist with graphic design, and post content to 1440-owned channels and website.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing Strategy, the Strategic Content Creator must be a highly collaborative position willing work with colleagues across the entire organization to explore the multifaced storylines of our nonprofit learning destination highlighting ways for the various 1440 audiences and visitors to Live, Lead, Love, Work, and Wonder Well. This role requires a strong skillset in creative thinking, ideation, execution, and tactics, and is a highly visible and active hands-on approach. This position demands the candidate to be in a constant state of positive exploration, development, and creative execution. Due to the integrated nature and high degree of engagement expected of this position, the candidate may be required to work on-site at the 1440 Multiversity campus.


  • Assist with the creation and design of promotional materials.
  • Use social media to engage consumers, respond to questions or complaints, and to promote company mission initiatives and objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to establish campaign objectives, complete tasks, and identify and solve problems.
  • Monitor organizational social media and website metrics.
  • Utilize Search Engine Optimization (SEO) methods to increase site traffic.
  • Suggest new ways to promote organizational offerings and expand consumer reach.
  • Expand engaged user database.
  • Work with all stakeholders to develop content as part of the larger brand marketing strategy focus on business conversions while educating and inspiring the audience.
  • Manage the development of creative copy and content across multiple platforms including but not limited to social media, e-mail newsletter, advertising, blog, stories, media platforms, and videos.
  • Personally generate and execute time-sensitive educational/inspirational content for 1440 brand distribution channels (blog posts, videos, social, marketing copy, and editorial stories).
  • Create and edit compelling, aspirational imagery and video in support of editorial projects and social media initiatives.
  • Organize, schedule, and conduct photo and video shoots including creative direction and management of all participants while on campus.
  • Oversee and expand 1440.tv content creation including "In the Teaching Kitchen" series.
  • Assist in expanding the 1440 brand social media presence by creating engaging, shareworthy social media content seek opportunities for viral campaigns and content.
  • Recommend and develop social media campaigns that align with key 1440 mission initiatives.
  • Develop a residency program for mission-aligned influencers and partners for cross-promotion and brand-building opportunities.
  • Pursue opportunities for 1440 to contribute to popular social media pages, blogs and websites.
  • Develop strategies and tactics to maximize followers, subscribers, and engagement with 1440 website pages, social media pages, app, and e-newsletter, in collaboration with the Manager | Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Analytics and Digital Media.
  • Adept with social media platforms, strategy, and monitoring (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Sprout Social), with the ability to build and sustain an online community.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to write in varying voices, from longer-form features to Q&As to impactful email marketing and social media copy.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and analyze new and emerging social media strategies and use best practices to increase visibility and traffic.
  • Oversee social media accounts while creating/maintaining a social calendar and analyze post performance and optimize as needed to amplify content; monitor and submit analytics weekly, identifying areas of success and areas of improvement.
  • Monitor existing and emerging mission- and brand-aligned industry trends and how they're discussed online to assist with strategy development.
  • Work closely with the Manager | Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Analytics and Digital Media, to develop integrated marketing strategies to meet business needs and Key Performance Indicators, including new website pages.
  • Assist with graphic design following outlined brand guidelines, including creating banner ads, fliers, email headers, and other digital design projects as needed.
  • Upload/publish content to 1440 website and social media channels and assist with general website updates, including curating content for 1440 Multiversity Online Learning.
  • Assist with building aesthetically pleasing Powerpoint presentations and other documents for internal and external meetings.
  • Assist the Marketing Team with other activities including mailings, sourcing requests, media photoshoots, media quote and imagery requests, and other needs.
  • Meet established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to audience growth and engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or a similar field.
  • Experience creating strong, engaging content some graphic design experience preferred
  • Ability to present a portfolio of applicable outputs during selection process.
  • An understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, proofreading, editing, and content creation.
  • Excellent research, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong listening and communication skills.
  • The capacity to work both independently and collaboratively, oftentimes under strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints without compromising quality or accuracy.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a professional writer and content creator; experience with notable nonprofits, agencies, or travel-oriented consumer brands preferred.
  • Photography and editing experience required; experience with basic video editing preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to target new audiences, increase followers and drive business through social media editorial.
  • Strong experience with website Content Management Systems (CMS), including Wordpress.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Experience working in Hubspot or a similar Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform.
  • Proactive self-starter that shows both initiative and detailed follow-through/completion.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Adaptable to work in an open office concept workspace with limited time alone.
  • Strong orientation to embrace 1440's mission, vision, culture principles, and values.
  • Basic knowledge of Google Analytics and/or Search Engine Optimization (SEO) a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team including with vendor/ contractor partners.
